#2 of Kaylynn's Top Ten

#2 is brought to you by:

THE MOON

Yes, the moon. She must have inherited her Papa's love of the night sky, because she LOVES the moon. I remember when the obsession started - actually, I don't remember the day, but I remember it was one summer night at my parent's house - I think in July, as Brian was taking finals. Kaylynn and I had come up by ourselves for a few days, and every evening, we took a dip in the pool (because the outside weather had finally cooled down enough where we could get in without the sun burning us.) We would get in around 8pm and watch the sun go down. If you've never seen my parents place, they have the best view of the west off their back porch, where the pool is. So while the sun would go down, the moon would come up and we showed Kaylynn the moon.

When we went on our trip to Vancouver this summer, she continued to spot the moon each night, and it became a nightly ritual, Kaylynn and Daddy would check the moon, come inside and tell Mommy "night-night", go read stories, then go read all her little signs (her name in letters, her full name embroidered, "Daughters are a special joy" embroidered picture, and of course, "I see the moon and the moon sees me...")

Now, some nights, you can't see the moon, be it because of clouds, or a new moon, or just not high enough in the night's sky to see it. Kaylynn would always respond "moon's ahind the clouds". In the daytime, "moon's sleeping."

Lately, it has developed into going out all doors of our house to make sure the moon is out. If it's not out in the backyard, she wants to go out the front door. If it's not out the front door, she wants to go out the garage (which is still the front, but whatever).

She even enjoys finding the moon in her books. We read "Goodnight, Moon" quite often, and if the moon is hiding anywhere else in a book or picture, you can be sure that Little Miss Eagle-Eyes is going to find it.

Maybe if being a veterinarian and a pilot fall through, she can be an astronomer (not astronaut...space scares her mommy!)
