#9 of Kaylynn's Top 10

#9 is...

MUSIC

This post is going to have a lot of quotes. Mostly of what Kaylynn sings. I was going to say dancing, but she really likes singing, too. You've seen the video of her dancing to The Office theme song. Now days, she likes to just randomly break into dance. Could be a commercial on TV (this one in particular), a song on the radio (miley cyrus, perhaps?)

Speaking of Miley Cyrus, it kills me to say that she really loves that song (Party in the USA.) We'll catch her in her carseat going "I put my hands up" while she puts her hands up. I asked her what comes next and she said "butterflies fly way." Ugh. We only have ourselves to blame for that one though, Brian goes around singing that song (yeah, that's right. I threw you under the bus!) I dread the day when she becomes obsessed with the next Disney singer.

We learned recently that she picks up and memorizes the songs we sing to her. We have a usual track of songs we go through. It usually starts with Kaylynn asking to sing:

1. Sunshine (You Are my Sunshine) - When I stop singing, she can fill in what comes next. Like "You are my _______. My only ________. You make me _________, when skies are _______. You'll never know dear, how much I ____ _____. Please don't take my _________ _____."

2. Happy (If You're Happy and You Know It) - Her favorites are clapping hands and barking like a dog. I had to make up all kinds of things for her to do, like pat your head, touch your eye, wiggle your toes, etc, because I didn't remember what you were supposed to say! I really think it has helped her identify her body parts. We've been doing this one for a long time, since she was about 1. It always calmed her down in the car.

3. Jesus (Jesus Loves Me) - The cutest thing happened yesterday. We were sitting on the feeder road of I-45 at a stop light and I hear in the backseat "Jesus love me, I know, Bibe say so!" Then she proceeded to go, "Jesus love Kayin. Jesus love Ben. Jesus love Mama. Jesus love Daddy." So I asked her who else Jesus loved and we ran the gauntlet - from her grandparents, to her aunts, uncles, and cousins, to the pets. I'd say, "how about ____" and she'd repeat, "yes. how 'bout ____"

4. ABCG (ABC's). I'll start "ABCD" and she'll follow up with some letters. It goes back and forth until we get to the end and she says, "I know ABC, sing with ME. YAAAAAYYYYY."

5. ItsyB (Itsy Bitsy Spider) - she likes the hand motions.

6. Patty Cake - She'll sing this by herself. "Patty cake, baker's MAN." She emphasizes "man".

The newest songs to our repoirtoie are:

Wheels on the Bus (she likes the wipers, "swish, swish, swish"
This Little Light of Mine (we do hand motions, she thinks it is hysterical!)
Row, Row, Row Your Boat

We don't have any videos of her singing, unfortunately. I know the second we try to capture it, she'll say, "No Sunshine" and refuse to do it.

Awww! We'll have to have uncle Mike hang around and sing "I just wanna rock and roll all night" so she can sing that one too :)
